The San Francisco 49ers concluded the 2025 NFL Draft on Saturday, adding Montana wide receiver Junior Bergen with their final selection. Bergen's addition rounded out the team's draft class.
The selection brings a player recognized for his special teams skills to the roster. Bergen averaged 21.6 yards on 21 kickoff returns and returned 10 punts for 240 yards during the 2024 season. This included three punt returns for touchdowns.
Bergen's college career included 49 receptions for 542 yards and three touchdowns in 2024. The prior year, he caught 46 passes for 698 yards and four touchdowns.
At Montana's Pro Day, Bergen recorded a 4.52 second time in the 40-yard dash. His 4.22 second short shuttle time would have ranked ninth among wide receivers at the NFL Combine. He also completed 17 reps on the bench press, a mark that would have placed him third at the position. https://www.ninersnation.com/2025/4/26/24418323/49ers-2025-nfl-draft-junior-bergen-montana
The Junior Bergen NFL Draft selection came after the team had previously focused heavily on defensive players early in the draft. Their first five picks were defensive before selecting Ole Miss wide receiver Jordan Watkins at pick No. 138 in the fourth round. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/49ers-select-wr-jordan-watkins-to-end-fourth-round
Team owner Jed York commented on social media just before the fourth-round pick was announced.
The 49ers also added quarterback Kurtis Rourke from Indiana with the No. 227 pick. Rourke played collegiately at Ohio and Indiana, appearing in 48 games. He finished his college career with 11,486 total yards of offense and 92 total touchdowns. https://www.49ers.com/news/49ers-select-qb-kurtis-rourke-with-the-no-227-pick-in-the-2025-nfl-draft
The addition of Junior Bergen provides another option for the wide receiver group and adds competition in the return game.
