The Jacksonville Jaguars have released wide receiver Gabe Davis, one year after signing him to a three-year, $39 million contract. The team announced the move on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
In his single season with the Jaguars, Gabe Davis recorded 20 receptions for 239 yards and two touchdowns. He also missed seven games during the 2024 campaign.
The decision comes as the Jaguars appear to be reshaping their future offensive unit. The team recently drafted Travis Hunter and added other playmakers like Brian Thomas Jr. and Dyami Brown, creating a crowded wide receiver room.
Davis, originally a fourth-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in the 2020 NFL Draft, was previously a notable target for quarterback Josh Allen. After putting up 45 receptions for 746 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in his final season with the Buffalo Bills, he did not receive a new deal from the team, leading him to sign with Jacksonville last offseason.
Speculation had surfaced recently that the team was considering trading Davis, particularly after the additions made during the draft. A source believed Davis was on "thin ice" regarding his contract status.
His release makes him an unrestricted free agent, free to sign with any team. Several teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Chargers, and Baltimore Ravens, were previously mentioned as potential fits when trade rumors circulated.
The Jaguars confirmed the move via their official public relations account.
