Collin Morikawa has replaced his caddie, parting ways with J.J. Jakovac and hiring veteran caddie Joe Greiner. The change takes effect next week.
Morikawa and Jakovac had worked together since Morikawa turned professional in 2019. Jakovac was on the bag for all of Morikawa’s PGA TOUR victories and both of his major championship wins.
During their partnership, Morikawa rose to No. 2 in the world ranking and secured six PGA TOUR titles. Jakovac confirmed the split via text message.
The news was first reported by golf commentator and former PGA Tour professional Colt Knost.
Joe Greiner previously spent six years caddying for Max Homa. The two split earlier this month.
Following his split with Homa, Greiner worked for Justin Thomas at the Masters and the RBC Heritage. Thomas won the RBC Heritage with Greiner on the bag while Matt Minister recovered from injury.
Morikawa, currently ranked No. 4, has not won since the 2023 Zozo Championship. He has recorded two runner-up finishes this season but missed the cut at the recent Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
Morikawa and Greiner have a relationship stemming from their California roots and time on the PGA TOUR. They have been teammates in team competitions including the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup.
Their first tournament together will be the Truist Championship in Philadelphia.
Speaking on his radio show, Knost commented on the surprising nature of the change. "When we first heard this," Knost said, "I thought there's no way this is happening."
