The second round of the THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson was suspended Friday due to inclement weather at TPC Craig Ranch. Play was halted in the morning as thunderstorms moved into the area.
Tournament officials initially stopped play at 9:46 a.m. local time because of lightning. Weather forecasts for the region continued to show potential for additional showers and thunderstorms throughout the day.
As of late afternoon, practice facilities reopened, and a restart was expected for 4 p.m. CT. Players had been removed from the course during the delay.
Overnight leader Scottie Scheffler completed nine holes of his second round before the suspension, standing at 2-under for the day and 12-under overall. This placed him with a two-shot lead.
Jhonattan Vegas was two strokes behind Scheffler at the time of the suspension. Vince Whaley was also having a strong round, moving up the leaderboard through his front nine.
Weather has been a factor at the event earlier in the week, with heavy rain and wind prompting an evacuation on Wednesday. A flash flood warning was in effect Thursday morning.
The forecast for the weekend indicates a shift to cooler, drier conditions with highs in the 70s anticipated under partly cloudy skies for Saturday and Sunday as a cold front settles south of the area.
