MCKINNEY, Texas -- Second round play at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson was suspended Friday morning due to lightning in the area. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler held the lead when the horn blew.
Scheffler stood at 12 under par through nine holes in his second round at TPC Craig Ranch. He made an eagle on the par-5 18th hole just before the suspension occurred.
The suspension, which began at 10:46 a.m. ET, paused play for all competitors on the course. Heavy rainfall had affected conditions the previous day during the first round.
Scheffler opened the Byron Nelson tournament with a 10-under 61 on Thursday to take a two-shot lead. That round included making the turn in 29.
Jhonattan Vegas was two shots behind Scheffler at 10 under through seven holes of his second round. Rico Hoey also finished the first round at 8 under.
Other players in the field include defending champion Taylor Pendrith, who shot 67 in the first round. Cameron Champ, who got into the field as an alternate, was among players who shot 64.
Jordan Spieth, playing in the same group as Scheffler in the second round, was 4 under par for the tournament when play stopped.
THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson marks Scheffler's return to his hometown event and the site of his PGA TOUR debut in 2014. The tournament is a stop on the PGA TOUR schedule.
