Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore is expected to serve a two-game suspension during the upcoming 2025 season. This penalty is part of self-imposed sanctions by the university related to the Connor Stalions advanced scouting investigation.

The suspension is anticipated for Michigan's third and fourth games of the season, against Central Michigan and Nebraska. During these weeks, Moore will be prohibited from participating in any team-related duties.

Additional penalties related to recruiting are also expected for Moore. The National Collegiate Athletic Association could potentially impose further punishment beyond the university's self-imposed measures. A final determination is anticipated before the start of the season.

Michigan opens its 2025 campaign hosting New Mexico before traveling for a game at Oklahoma, where Moore played collegiately. Moore is expected to coach the team in these initial games.

The reported suspension for Sherrone Moore is linked to allegations that he deleted a thread of 52 text messages exchanged with Stalions, a former staff member connected to the sign-stealing allegations.

This expected suspension differs in nature from the one served by former coach Jim Harbaugh in 2023. Harbaugh was barred from coaching on game days but was permitted to participate in team activities during the week, whereas Moore's expected ban covers all team duties during the specified weeks.

The university previously indicated plans to contest aspects of the Stalions allegations. Documents reviewed by reporters showed the school considered the NCAA's actions "grossly overreaching" and "wildly overcharging," questioning the credibility of evidence regarding the alleged scheme.

Michigan received an official Notice of Allegations from the NCAA in August of 2024 concerning the matter. The school advocated for the case to be handled as a Level II infraction rather than the more severe Level I classification.

The resolution of the case involving Sherrone Moore and the university's self-imposed penalties is expected to be finalized before the season begins.
