Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers are prioritizing defensive additions through the NCAA transfer portal this offseason. Following Spring Camp, areas needing reinforcement were identified as safety and defensive tackle.

ESPN analyst Greg McElroy highlighted these positions as points of concern for the program. He noted that while LSU hosted several safeties during the initial transfer window, they ultimately added one player at the position.

Improving depth at safety is a stated goal for LSU. The team's safety room used players like transfer Tamarcus Cooley, Javien Toviano, Dashawn Spears, and Joel Rogers during spring practices. Jardin Gilbert, who missed camp due to shoulder surgery, was noted for his leadership role.

LSU reportedly remains active in the transfer market for safeties. AJ Haulcy, a transfer from Houston, has been linked to the Tigers as a potential target.

The defensive line also remains an area LSU aims to bolster. The program recently added defensive lineman Bernard Gooden from South Florida during the spring transfer period.

The moves align with LSU's offseason strategy to overhaul the defense. This approach seeks to address vulnerabilities observed in prior seasons.

Head coach Brian Kelly's decisions regarding roster adjustments through the portal are under focus as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
