Actress and filmmaker Halle Berry has been selected to serve on the jury for the 78th Festival de Cannes. She joins the group led by French actress Juliette Binoche, who is presiding over the jury.
The diverse nine-member jury includes Indian director Payal Kapadia, Italian actress Alba Rohrwacher, French-Moroccan writer Leïla Slimani, Congolese documentarist Dieudo Hamadi, Korean director Hong Sangsoo, Mexican director Carlos Reygadas, and American actor Jeremy Strong.
This jury will be tasked with evaluating the films in Competition to award the prestigious Palme d’or. Sean Baker’s Anora received the award in 2024 from the jury headed by Greta Gerwig.
Halle Berry made history as the first African-American woman to win the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Marc Forster’s Monster’s Ball in 2002.
Her career spans a range of projects, from blockbusters like X-Men and Die Another Day to independent features such as Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever. Other notable credits include Gothika, Frankie & Alice, Cloud Atlas, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and John Wick Parabellum.
Beyond acting, Berry has also worked behind the camera. She made her directorial debut with the film Bruised in 2020 and has also served as a producer on projects including Alexandre Aja’s Never Let Go. A Never Let Go streaming movie review became available recently.
The Festival de Cannes takes place on La Croisette. The winners selected by the jury will be announced during the Closing Ceremony on Saturday, May 24.

Juliette Binoche is an acclaimed actress with a long history at the festival, having appeared in numerous films shown in the Official Selection and winning the Best Actress award in 2010 for Certified Copy.
