Singers Lucero and Manuel Mijares, who were married for 14 years before divorcing in 2011, recently addressed their separation with humor while promoting upcoming projects.
During a press conference for their joint concert series, Lucero joked about the reason for the split. When Manuel Mijares made a comment, Lucero responded, translated from Spanish, "That's why I left, that's why I divorced him," adding playfully, "That's why we divorced, because I didn't applaud him when he came down for breakfast."
The former couple maintains a working relationship and appears together on the reality show Juego de Voces. They are also preparing for a concert titled Entre Amigos with other artists.
Their daughter, Lucero Mijares, discussed her parents' enduring appeal during an appearance on the program "Pinky Promise." She shared that her friends express admiration for both Lucero and Manuel Mijares.
Lucero Mijares recounted that female friends are drawn to her father, particularly after seeing him perform or watching his earlier work.
She mentioned a friend who saw the movie "Escápate conmigo," which starred her parents in 1987. Her friend commented on how handsome Manuel Mijares appeared in the film.
Regarding her mother, Lucero Mijares said her male friends are struck by Lucero's appearance, even when she is dressed casually. Friends comment on how good she looks even in sweatpants or pajamas.
Lucero, 55, and Manuel Mijares, 67, married in 1997. They announced their divorce in March 2011, citing demanding schedules and the challenges of coexistence as reasons for their separation.
They have two children, Lucero Mijares and José Manuel. José Manuel has pursued music but largely avoids the public eye, while Lucero Mijares performs with her parents.
The upcoming "Entre Amigos" concert featuring Lucero, Manuel Mijares, Yuri, and Emmanuel is scheduled for June 20 at the Palacio de los Deportes in CDMX.
