Ukrainian player Marta Kostyuk served an unusual ace during her third-round match at the 2025 Mutua Madrid Open on Sunday. The shot against Veronika Kudermetova drew gasps from the crowd and a sheepish reaction from Kostyuk herself.

Ranked No. 36 at the time, Kostyuk hit a serve that appeared mishit, sailing through the air before landing just inside the service box. The ball bounced twice before Kudermetova could reach it, resulting in an ace.

The shot was described by onlookers as one of the most surreal serves seen on a tennis court. Even Kostyuk seemed surprised by the outcome.

Immediately after the point, Kostyuk glanced toward the chair umpire for confirmation before turning to her opponent and offering an apology for the accidental nature of the ace.

The peculiar moment occurred early in the match as Kostyuk built an early lead in the third round. Marta Kostyuk had advanced to this stage after defeating Emma Raducanu in the previous round.

Veronika Kudermetova could only watch as the unpredictable serve bounced. Both players appeared stunned by how the point concluded.

The incident quickly circulated online, with a video clip of the ace gaining attention.

The 2025 Mutua Madrid Open continues this week at the Caja Magica.
