Jack Draper advanced to the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open on Wednesday with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Tommy Paul.

The British No 1 took just over an hour to secure his spot in the last eight of the ATP Masters tournament. He did not face a break point throughout the match.

This win marks Draper's deepest run at a clay court Masters event. He will face Matteo Arnaldi next after the Italian eliminated Novak Djokovic earlier in the tournament.

Currently ranked World No. 6, a win in his next match would move Jack Draper into the top five of the world rankings, potentially on verge of passing Djokovic in rankings.

Draper stated he feels more comfortable on clay this season compared to previous years. He highlighted his goal to prove he can perform well on the surface.

Match statistics showed Draper hit 20 winners to Paul's seven. Paul also committed 31 unforced errors compared to Draper's 11.

The British player has built confidence from recent results, including first Masters title in Indian Wells in March and a run to the US Open semifinals last year.

Draper is now the highest-ranked male player remaining in the tournament field.

“I felt really good out there today,” Draper said after the match. “I knew Tommy is a great player, so I had to be on him from the off.”
