World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler won the CJ Cup Byron Nelson by eight shots Sunday, shooting 31-under par at TPC Craig Ranch. The victory marks his 14th career PGA Tour title.

Scheffler, a product of Highland Park High, shot an 8-under 63 in the final round. His 31-under total tied a PGA Tour scoring record for lowest 72-hole score.

He is the only local high school product besides W.T. White High’s Scott Verplank in 2007 to win the tournament since it became known as the Byron Nelson in 1968. Scheffler also became the event’s third wire-to-wire winner.

Fellow Dallas area golfer and Texas LonghornJordan Spieth fired a 62((Source)) Sunday to finish at 19-under, far behind Scheffler on the final leaderboard updates. Spieth played the first two rounds with Scheffler.

The win was Scheffler's first since the Tour Championship last September 1, ending an eight-month span without a victory. He has recorded at least one win every year for four years.

Scheffler earned $1.782 million for the victory. Sunday's first-place check increased his career earnings to over $78.5 million before bonuses. You can review the full prize money payouts.

He won seven victories last season, matching Tiger Woods' total in 2007. At 28 years old, Scheffler ties for 65th on the PGA Tour's all-time wins list.

Scheffler has missed 19 cuts in 139 career starts, securing 65 top-ten finishes and 35 top-three results.

"What he’s doing is inspiring," Spieth said. "It wasn’t that long ago I was definitely better than him — and now I’m definitely not."
