Dewald Brevis, batting for Chennai Super Kings, scored 30 runs off a single over bowled by Vaibhav Arora of Kolkata Knight Riders during an Indian Premier League match Wednesday. The performance helped him reach his first IPL fifty in the contest at Eden Gardens.
Brevis arrived at the crease with Chennai Super Kings facing difficulty at 56/4 after five overs. He significantly accelerated the scoring, particularly targeting Arora in the 11th over.
Arora began the over with a delivery that Brevis hit for six. Subsequent balls saw Brevis hit two fours, followed by consecutive sixes, and finishing the over with another four. This surge yielded 30 runs from the six balls.
The over propelled Brevis to his maiden IPL fifty, reaching the milestone in 22 deliveries. His innings included four boundaries and four maximums.
His partnership helped improve Chennai's position in the match. However, Brevis was dismissed shortly after reaching his fifty, caught off the bowling of Varun Chakaravarthy in the following over.
Prior to the expensive over, Vaibhav Arora had completed two overs for eight runs and taken a wicket. Dewald Brevis was brought into the Chennai Super Kings squad as a replacement player earlier in the season.
The 30-run over stands among the higher scoring overs for Chennai Super Kings batters in the IPL.
At 22 years and eight days old, Brevis is one of the younger players to achieve an IPL fifty for Chennai Super Kings. Only Ayush Mhatre and Suresh Raina reached the mark at younger ages for the franchise.
As of late in the match, Chennai Super Kings required 39 runs off 28 balls, standing at 141/6 after 15.2 overs against Kolkata Knight Riders.
