The No. 4 ranked Blinn College baseball team secured its third consecutive Region XIV South championship with a win over Alvin Community College in the regular-season finale Saturday at Leroy Dreyer Field. The victory capped a successful regular season for the Buccaneers.
Meanwhile, the Blinn College softball team's season concluded Sunday in the Region XIV Tournament in Bossier City, Louisiana. The Buccaneers fell to San Jacinto College-South 8-7 in a close contest, ending their tournament run.
The softball team finished its season with an overall record of 23-23. The loss to San Jacinto College-South marked the team's second consecutive one-run defeat in the double-elimination tournament.
Head coach Rick Church commented on the team's effort in the final game. "We fought back and had the tying run in scoring position in the seventh inning," Church said. "It's disappointing to end our tournament run early after coming in as the number-one seed, but our players didn't quit fighting all weekend."
The softball team had claimed the Region XIV South title the previous weekend, the program's first since 2019. This followed a significant turnaround after starting the season with a 5-17 record. The team went 18-4 over the final weeks of the regular season, finishing 19-5 in South play.
On the baseball side, the Buccaneers' championship was clinched by defeating Alvin Community College. Blinn College finished the regular season with a strong record that included winning its season series against Wharton County Junior College.
Ranked fourth nationally, the Blinn College baseball squad enters the postseason as a top contender.
