A multi-vehicle crash on Douglas Road Tuesday morning resulted in one driver being hospitalized with minor injuries. Police at the scene, speaking with 13 Action News, said the collision involved four vehicles.
The crash occurred on May 6 on Douglas Road between Central Avenue and Monroe Street. Investigators believe one driver ran a red light, causing the accident.
Douglas Road was closed in both directions while crews worked to clear the scene and remove the damaged vehicles.
In other local news, residents on Western Avenue continue to express frustration over a neighboring property they describe as a nuisance. They report ongoing issues with trash and remnants of alleged drug use.
According to reports, the City of Toledo has been aware of the property for two years. Orders were initially issued in May 2023 to the owner, Citizens of Hope, LLC, according to the Lucas County Auditor. Fines followed in June 2023.
New orders were issued in January 2024 and again in January 2025. An inspector visited the property on April 28, providing a 72-hour notice for cleanup, but residents say the trash is merely being moved around.
Shyane Warnke, who lives nearby, stated, "Nothing has been cleaned up. It's like they don't care. Now you guys see, it's a losing battle it seems like." The city reports they cannot reach the owner, and Citizens of Hope, LLC, has been taken to housing court.
Separately, Toledo Public Schools announced a significant donation to establish a new academy. A Toledo family, Tom and Betsy Brady, donated $1 million to help start the Brady Educator and Social Services Academy at the district’s Scott Park University campus.
The donation was announced Tuesday at the Aspiring Young Educators conference at the University of Toledo. The academy is scheduled to open for classes in the 2026-27 school year.
The donation will be given to the TPS Foundation to support facilities, curriculum, and scholarships. Bob Vasquez, president of the TPS board, highlighted the benefit, stating the donation "helps the taxpayers not having to finance everything in the school district. It's a big shot in the arm."
