A deadly motorcycle crash Monday morning blocked lanes and caused significant delays on a major Phoenix freeway.

The collision occurred in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 near 16th Street in the downtown Phoenix area.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating the fatal incident. Details regarding the circumstances of the crash remain limited.

Crews on the scene observed a motorcycle on the roadway with law enforcement vehicles securing the area. Evidence markers were also present.

The crash caused a major backup for drivers navigating the morning commute.

The HOV lane was closed from 16th Street extending toward the 18th Street pedestrian bridge due to the scene. However, all lanes were reopened to traffic around 5:40 a.m. according to reports. AZFamily was on the scene where the motorcycle was visible on the roadway.

The person killed in the crash has not yet been identified publicly.
