Multiple people were shot Sunday evening at a restaurant hosting a Cinco de Mayo event, according to authorities. The Glendale Police Department reported the incident occurred around 7:45 p.m.

The shooting happened at El Camaron Gigante Mariscos & Steakhouse near 57th and Glendale avenues, a location noted by police as involving a family-friendly celebration.

Officer Moroni Mendez of the Glendale Police Department stated that while initial reports indicated at least three victims, the number may be closer to nine. He could not confirm a precise number but confirmed it was more than three people.

Witnesses described hearing multiple rounds fired over several seconds. One witness reported hearing over 20 shots initially, followed by another set of approximately 10 shots after a brief pause. The witness's car was struck by bullets during the incident.

No arrests have been made immediately following the event. Officer Mendez indicated that multiple individuals were detained at the scene as officers worked to determine if they were suspects, victims, or witnesses.

Police believe more than one shooter may have been involved. However, Officer Mendez assured the public that the immediate area was considered safe despite the ongoing investigation.

Neither police officers nor security personnel discharged weapons or were injured during the Glendale shooting incident, according to Officer Mendez.

The condition of the victims and what led to the gunfire were not immediately known. Police described the scene as "chaotic."

Investigators are meeting to review details and hope to provide additional information as it becomes available.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Glendale Police Department.

Officer Mendez said regarding the detainments, "There are multiple people that our officers and detectives are speaking to."
