The popular series "Heartstopper" will conclude with a feature film, broadcaster Netflix announced Tuesday. The adaptation of Alice Oseman's graphic novels follows the relationship between high schoolers Nick Nelson and Charlie Spring.

Following three successful seasons exploring the lives of Nick and Charlie and their friends, a movie will finish their story. The film draws its plot from Oseman's upcoming sixth book in the series.

Actors Kit Connor and Joe Locke will return to play the main characters. Both Connor and Locke are also executive producing the final chapter. Connor currently stars on Broadway and has a role in the upcoming film "Warfare." Locke recently appeared in the series "Agatha All Along."

Wash Westmoreland will direct the film. His previous directing credits include "Still Alice" and "Colette." Oseman wrote the movie script.

Filming is scheduled to begin this summer. A release date for the final Heartstopper Movie Netflix is not yet set. The involvement of other cast members, including Olivia Colman as Nick's mother, remains unconfirmed.

Oseman expressed excitement about completing the narrative. "I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story," she stated. "I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion."

The show's most recent season aired in 2024. It ended with Nick and Charlie having sex for the first time. A summary suggests the final film will address concerns about the couple maintaining their relationship when Nick attends university, creating a long-distance dynamic.

Since its 2022 debut, Heartstopper earned praise for its gentle portrayal of LGBTQ+ teenage relationships. The first season became a quick success, reaching Netflix's Top 10 chart shortly after launch.

Wrapping a series with a movie is an uncommon move. Netflix ended the sci-fi drama "Sense8" with a film in 2017 after canceling the show. Other series like "Timeless" and "Deadwood" also concluded with movies.
