Lewis Hamilton appeared on the red carpet at the 2025 Met Gala, serving as one of the event's co-chairs. The British Formula 1 racer arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday, May 5.

Hamilton wore a custom cream-colored suit and matching beret designed by Wales Bonner. The look included tails, a satin bowtie, and vintage jewels.

The outfit incorporated references from Barkley L. Hendricks paintings and Black spiritual dressing, according to Wales Bonner. Jewel adornments and trims featured symbolism like baobab flower motifs and natural materials.

The 2025 Met Gala theme is "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style." The exhibition focuses on menswear and examines Black style from the 18th century to the present, exploring the concept of Black dandyism. The dress code for the evening was "Tailored for You."

Hamilton was announced as a co-chair in October, joining Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour. LeBron James is also an honorary chair for the event.

The Met Gala acts as a fundraiser for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A host committee assists with the event, including Simone Biles, Angel Reese, Sha'Carri Richardson, Spike Lee, Regina King, and Usher. This is not Hamilton's first time at the Met Gala. He attended in 2024 wearing custom Burberry that paid homage to John Ystumllyn, one of Britain’s first Black gardeners. In 2021, he wore a custom Kenneth Nicholson design and hosted a table supporting young Black designers.Hamilton stated that he hoped attendees would research and think deeply about what they were wearing.

"When I started my career I never imagined what I might be capable of beyond my sport. The pressure to conform holds so many people back," Lewis Hamilton wrote about the theme. "Growing up as the only Black kid on the track, so often that pressure got to me. Expressing myself creatively was and still is my freedom from that conformity. For Black people across the diaspora, fashion is self-preservation. Fashion is resilience, and I can’t wait to further explore and amplify our underrepresented voices.”
