Katy Perry did not attend the 2025 Met Gala held Monday at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Despite her absence, the singer became a prominent topic online as AI-generated images portraying her on the event's carpet circulated widely. This marks the second consecutive year that fabricated images of a Katy Perry Met Gala appearance have gone viral.

The realistic images showed Perry modeling elaborate outfits that many social media users initially believed were genuine. Based on these fakes, some online commentators even declared her among the night's "best dressed."

One image depicted Perry in a skintight black latex gown paired with a cut-out pinstripe blazer bodice. Devoted followers of the singer were quicker to identify subtle visual flaws indicative of artificial generation.

Perry's decision not to attend aligns with her preparation for upcoming performances. She is scheduled to perform in Houston, Texas, this Wednesday as part of her Lifetimes Tour.

Her partner, Orlando Bloom, also did not appear at the event. The couple generally maintains a private life, though Bloom supported Perry ahead of her recent Blue Origin’s historic all-female mission space flight, alongside their daughter Daisy Dove Bloom.

The spread of fake images mirrors the 2024 Met Gala when similar AI creations featuring Perry in extravagant gowns fooled numerous people, including her mother.

Perry addressed the 2024 incident on social media by sharing a text exchange with her mother.

Perry has a history of memorable looks at the Met Gala, having attended nine times since her debut in 2009. For the 2019 "Camp: Notes on Fashion" theme, she wore a design that transformed her into a fully lit chandelier and later changed into a hamburger costume for an after-party.

The 2025 Met Gala theme was "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style." The event also saw the absence of other notable figures, including Ariana Grande, Jennifer Lopez, and Selena Gomez.

Katy Perry has not attended the Met Gala since 2022.
