San Francisco technology entrepreneur Lucy Guo has been recognized as the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire by Forbes. At age 30, Guo takes the distinction previously held by music artist Taylor Swift, 35.
Guo is a co-founder of San Francisco-based Scale AI, a company specializing in data labeling. The company, now nine years old, is finalizing a tender offer that will value it at approximately $25 billion. This valuation represents a substantial increase from its $13.8 billion mark recorded earlier in the year.
A Bay Area native and college dropout, Guo helped launch Scale AI when she was 21. She founded the company alongside Alexandr Wang, who serves as its CEO and is noted as the world’s youngest self-made male billionaire.
Though Guo left Scale AI in 2018 following a disagreement with Wang, she maintained a stake in the company. That stake, reported to be near 5%, is now valued at close to $1.2 billion, accounting for the bulk of her wealth.
Since departing Scale AI, Lucy Guo founded Passes, a platform for creators offering subscription services. She is one of only a few self-made female billionaires under the age of 40.
Guo is also unique among this group as the only one whose significant fortune primarily derives from a company she no longer actively manages.
Other young self-made female billionaires noted by Forbes include Daniela Amodei, Melanie Perkins, Rihanna, and Lu Yiwen.
Reflecting on her status, Guo told Forbes via text, "I don’t really think about it much, it’s a bit wild. Too bad it’s all on paper haha."
