Several championship matches are set for WWE's Backlash PLE event scheduled for later this month. The card will feature defenses of the UNDISPUTED WWE, WOMEN'S INTERCONTINENTAL, UNITED STATES, and INTERCONTINENTAL Championships.
A Fatal 4-Way match for the UNITED STATES Title was recently announced. Champion Jacob Fatu will defend against LA KNIGHT, Damian Priest, and Drew McIntyre. This multi-man contest came about following interference in recent matches involving the challengers on SMACKDOWN.
General Manager Nick Aldis booked the Fatal 4-Way after Solo Sikoa repeatedly interfered in matches, including a contest between LA KNIGHT and Damian Priest. Sikoa objected to the booking, arguing Drew McIntyre deserved the next title match as the number one contender. Aldis then added McIntyre to the match, creating the four-way contest.
Also set for the event is a singles match for the INTERCONTINENTAL Championship. Dominik Mysterio will put his title on the line against Penta. This match marks a rematch from the Raw after WrestleMania where Mysterio defeated Penta with an assist from Carlito.
Dominik Mysterio captured the INTERCONTINENTAL Title at WrestleMania 41 in a Fatal 4-Way match also involving Bron Breakker, Penta, and Finn Balor. The upcoming Backlash match against Penta will be Mysterio's second title defense since winning the championship in LAS VEGAS. His ally, JD MCDONAGH, lost a match on Monday's Raw ahead of the Backlash announcement.
Other championship matches confirmed include Lyra Valkyria defending the WOMEN'S INTERCONTINENTAL Championship against Becky Lynch. The UNDISPUTED WWE Champion John Cena is also scheduled to defend his title against Randy Orton.
A non-title match has also been announced for Backlash. Former WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT Champion GUNTHER will face RAW commentator Pat McAfee. Additional matches may be added to the card leading up to the event. More information about the event and the confirmed matches is available.
