World Wrestling Entertainment is preparing for its Backlash 2025 premium live event. The show is scheduled for Saturday, May 10, at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
A featured match will see John Cena challenge Randy Orton for the Undisputed WWE Championship. This encounter is being billed as "One Last Time" for the veteran competitors.
Cena, a 17-time World Champion, and Orton, a 14-time World Champion, have a history spanning two decades. They have met in 21 singles matches, with nine of those contests involving a championship. Cena holds a 13-7-1 record against Orton overall, but Orton has a 5-4 advantage in title matches. Their previous matches include clashes like an "Anything Goes WWE Iron Man Match" in 2009 and an "I Quit" Match that same year.
The Backlash 2025 event will be broadcast live on Peacock in the United States and on Netflix internationally.
Beyond the Undisputed Championship bout, speculation centers on possible roster additions at the event. Reports suggest several competitors may return to action. Among those potentially appearing are the Kabuki Warriors, the tag team of Asuka and Kairi Sane.
Other figures featured in recent programming who could be involved include World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest, Jey Uso, Gunther, Pat McAfee, LA Knight, Jacob Fatu, Tiffany Stratton, Jade Cargill, Nia Jax, and Naomi. Highlights from the May 2, 2025, SmackDown broadcast included Jacob Fatu's actions against LA Knight and Damian Priest, along with Randy Orton's mention of John Cena. The May 5, 2025, Raw broadcast featured Paul Heyman confronting Jey Uso, and commentary discussed a potential match between Gunther and Pat McAfee.
Backlash 2025 follows closely after the recent WrestleMania 41 event.
