Arsenal midfielder Bukayo Saka expressed confidence Wednesday that his team can overcome a one-goal deficit in the Champions League semi-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain. The return match is scheduled for the Parc des Princes tonight.
Arsenal lost the first leg 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium last week. Ousmane Dembele scored the only goal for the Ligue 1 champions in the fourth minute of the match.
Despite the home defeat, Saka maintained belief within the squad remains high regarding their chances of reaching the final. The Champions League represents Arsenal's last opportunity for silverware this season after falling short in the Premier League title race.
Reflecting on his own performance in the initial encounter, Bukayo Saka acknowledged finding it "difficult" to exert his usual influence. He had recently returned from a thigh injury before that match.
He specifically mentioned the challenge posed by PSG left-back Nuno Mendes. "He's a top full-back and so quick as well, man," Saka told Sky Sports, adding that he enjoyed the battle and looked forward to facing him again.
The teams met previously earlier in the season in the league phase in October. Arsenal secured a 2-0 home win in that match, with Bukayo Saka among the goalscorers alongside Kai Havertz.
Saka noted PSG appears a different team now compared to the October meeting, highlighting their improved cohesion and ball movement. He described them as having a "good manager," referencing Luis Enrique, and "top-quality players."
To advance to the final in Munich without requiring a penalty shootout, Mikel Arteta's side must secure a victory by a two-goal margin in Paris. A one-goal Arsenal win would force extra time.
Saka suggested staying calm is important but that Arsenal knows it needs to elevate its performance.
"I think it's important to stay calm, but obviously we know we have another level to go and I think we're going to show it in Paris, and I'm confident we can turn it around," Bukayo Saka told Sky Sports.
