Infielder Willy Adames recently discussed his decision to sign a substantial contract with the San Francisco Giants this past offseason, citing the influence of Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey. Adames agreed to a deal reportedly worth $182 million, a figure he acknowledged played a role, but emphasized conversations with Posey were a primary factor.

Adames explained that initial discussions with Posey focused less on financial terms and more on the vision for the team. "I feel like with him... it was easy because... we didn’t even talk about money until... the last few days,” Adames said recently.

The shortstop indicated the focus was on the culture Posey aimed to build in San Francisco and the type of players he planned to bring into the clubhouse. Adames stated, “All that kind of stuff is what drives me. It’s like, I want to create a winning culture.”

Posey, a former All-Star catcher, was a central figure in the Giants' championship teams in 2010, 2012, and 2014. He earned the Rookie of the Year award in 2010 and was named MVP in 2012. His playing career history resonated with Adames.

Adames expressed a desire to help build a successful era similar to the Giants' past. “I want to create something great here like you guys had in 2010 and you know, when they won all those championships," Adames stated. "We can build something great if you can bring the right pieces.”

He noted the impact of talking with a player of Posey's stature. "When you go and talk to somebody, it’s Buster Posey talking to somebody. It’s not anybody else," Adames said. He described Posey as a "legend, probably a Hall of Famer, three-time champion, like MVP, whatever."

Adames felt Posey's involvement changed his perspective as a player considering the team. Knowing Posey would be running the organization instilled confidence.

Adames ultimately stated, “just forget about the money, like, I just want to build something great with you.” While the $182 million contract was part of the equation, Posey's leadership and vision were presented as key motivators in Willy Adames choosing the Giants.
