The Pacific Division semifinal series between the San Jose Barracuda and the Colorado Eagles is tied 1-1 after the Barracuda secured a 2-1 overtime victory in Game 2 Sunday evening. The best-of-five series now shifts to Colorado.
San Jose forward Danil Gushchin scored the game-winning goal 27 seconds into the extra period at Tech CU Arena. The play developed during a Barracuda power play late in regulation, carrying over into overtime. Danil Gushchin received a return pass and drove to the net.
Gushchin's initial shot was stopped by Colorado Eagles goaltender Trent Miner. The rebound deflected into the net off the skate of Eagles defender Chris Wagner.
Colorado had opened the scoring in Game 2. Eagles defenseman Calle Rosén netted a power-play goal in the second period. San Jose forward Pavol Regenda later tied the game with a shorthanded goal.
In Game 1 on Friday, the Colorado Eagles took the series lead with a 6-3 win over San Jose. Colorado 6, SAN JOSE 3 was the final score from the opening contest. San Jose responded Sunday to even the series. SAN JOSE 2, Colorado 1 (OT) secured the win for the Barracuda.
Barracuda goaltender Yaroslav Askarov made 27 saves in Game 2. Miner finished with 34 stops for the Eagles.
Game 3 is scheduled for Tuesday in Colorado. Game 4 is set for Wednesday, also in Colorado. A decisive Game 5, if necessary, would be played Sunday in Colorado.
