Sidney Crosby will represent Team Canada at the 2025 IIHF World Championship. Hockey Canada announced Sunday the Pittsburgh Penguins captain was added to the roster for the tournament being held from May 9-25 in Herning, Denmark and Stockholm, Sweden.

This marks Crosby's third appearance at the World Championship. His last was in 2015, when he captained Canada to a gold medal. It will be his ninth time skating for Team Canada at the international level, following his recent participation in the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament in February.

A member of the Triple Gold Club, Crosby has won a Stanley Cup, Olympic Gold, and World Championship. He is the only member of the club to have captained the winning team for all three titles. His international resume also includes golds at the 4 Nations Face-Off (2025), World Cup of Hockey (2016), and World Junior Championship (2005).

Crosby's availability for the tournament comes after the Penguins did not qualify for the NHL playoffs. He recently completed his 20th NHL season, leading his team with 91 points (33 goals, 58 assists) in 80 games.

During the season, he surpassed Wayne Gretzky for the most point-per-game seasons in NHL history with his 20th such campaign. He also became the Penguins all-time assists leader, passing Mario Lemieux.

Penguins General Manager Kyle Dubas is serving as Team Canada's General Manager for the tournament. Penguins defensive prospect Harrison Brunicke is also with Team Canada and participated in Sunday's pre-tournament matchup against Austria.

Crosby previously became the youngest international player ever to win a tournament scoring title at the 2006 World Championship.

The tournament schedule has Team Canada opening preliminary play on May 10.
