Guard Travis Perry, a Kentucky native and former high school sensation, has entered the college basketball transfer portal. The move comes as a late surprise just hours before the portal's deadline.

Travis Perry completed his freshman season with the Wildcats averaging 2.7 points and 0.8 rebounds in 9.7 minutes across 31 games. He appeared in four contests as a starter during the season.

The Lyon County product is renowned for breaking the KHSAA state scoring record in high school. He led his Lyon County team to a Sweet 16 title at Rupp Arena the following year. Perry earned the title of Mr. Kentucky Basketball, surpassing Trent Noah in state scoring. He finished his prep career with over 5,000 points.

Travis Perry saw his role expand unexpectedly during his first season under coach Mark Pope. Injuries in the backcourt necessitated increased playing time for the true freshman.

He started three consecutive SEC games mid-season, averaging 8.0 points, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals in over 27 minutes per outing during that stretch. Perry also started the Wildcats’ SEC Tournament quarterfinal matchup against Alabama, contributing 11 points and four rebounds in 30 minutes.

Before committing to Kentucky, Perry's recruitment drew interest from programs including Alabama, Cincinnati, Ole Miss, Purdue, and Western Kentucky. His decision to attend the state's flagship university garnered significant local attention.

His departure follows other backcourt changes for the upcoming season. Acaden Lewis decommitted earlier in April. The team recently secured a commitment from Florida guard Denzel Aberdeen, potentially contributing to a crowded backcourt situation. The news of his entry into the portal circulated Monday evening.

Travis Perry is now seeking opportunities elsewhere for a larger role. He leaves Kentucky after just one season despite previous suggestions he might remain with the program. His stats can be found on his ESPN player page.
