Darius Adams, a highly-rated guard in the 2025 recruiting class, has decommitted from the UConn men’s basketball program. The senior announced his decision Saturday.

Adams was one of several top prospects committed to UConn. Sources told ESPN on Saturday he would receive a release from his letter of intent. He had committed to the Huskies in September.

A combo guard from New Jersey, Adams attends La Lumiere School in Indiana. He originally chose UConn over Michigan State and Tennessee. Alabama had also pursued him.

Adams announced his decommitment via social media. He wrote that he thanked God for the opportunity, the UConn coaching staff and fans. Adams stated this was a difficult decision but believes it is best for his future.

His statement also indicated his recruitment is now “wide open.”

Reports suggest the decommitment may relate to UConn adding experienced guards through the transfer portal, potentially affecting Adams' role as a freshman. Returning players and Alex Karaban's NBA draft decision also factored into the team composition.

Adams is considered a multi-dimensional scoring threat. He is known for his jump shot and ability to score off screens in the mid-range and from three-point distance. He recently played in the McDonald's All-American Game, alongside two other then-UConn commits.

With Adams leaving, UConn's incoming freshman class includes two McDonald’s All Americans: five-star guard Braylon Mullins and four-star center Eric Reibe. Australian wing Jacob Furphy also remains in the class.

Adams' decommitment impacts UConn's roster outlook for the upcoming season.
