His performance in the first two games has drawn praise from teammates and demonstrated a shift in approach compared to his typically reserved demeanor off the court.
In Game 1, Andrew Nembhard set an aggressive tone early. He initiated contact with the Bucks' biggest players, including Giannis Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez. This physical approach appeared intentional, signaling the Pacers' willingness to engage in a tough series.
Nembhard scored 15 points in the first half of Game 1, contributing to the Pacers' substantial halftime lead. He finished the game with 17 points, five assists, and four rebounds. His ability to drive into the lane and challenge larger defenders like Lopez proved effective.
"Drew was aggressive from the jump," Pacers forward Pascal Siakam said after Game 1. "When he’s aggressive and getting downhill, I always tell him he’s one of the best at doing that, and we know what he can do on defense."
In Game 2, Nembhard's impact shifted to the defensive end, particularly in the second half against Bucks star Damian Lillard. After Lillard had a strong first half, Nembhard took on the primary defensive assignment, limiting Lillard's effectiveness considerably.
Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton highlighted Nembhard's defensive effort. "Andrew Nembhard was huge for us down the stretch," Haliburton said following the Game 2 victory.
Nembhard's performance in these initial games builds on his contributions in the previous year's playoffs. He averaged nearly 15 points and over five assists in the 2024 postseason, indicating a pattern of elevated play during high-pressure games.
The series has featured notable physicality and tension between the teams, stemming from previous matchups. Maintaining composure while playing aggressively is a challenge the Pacers face. "We’ve got to maintain a level head and a high level of aggression while also maintaining poise," Pacers coach Rick Carlisle commented.
