The series opener between the Detroit Tigers and Baltimore Orioles, scheduled for April 25 at Comerica Park, was postponed due to thunderstorms in the Detroit area.
The teams will now play a split doubleheader on Saturday, April 26. The first game is scheduled to begin at 1:10 p.m. Eastern time, with the second game starting at 6:40 p.m. The three-game series will conclude as originally planned on Sunday, April 27, at 1:40 p.m.
This marks the first weather-related postponement for the Tigers in the 2025 season.
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch commented on the unexpected break, noting the team had just had an off day on Thursday. "We were just talking about not having enough off days and now here we are with too many off days," Hinch said. "But, Mother Nature doesn't care about pitching schedules."
The Tigers (15-10) are closing out a 10-game homestand, coming off series wins against the Kansas City Royals and San Diego Padres. The Baltimore Orioles hold a 10-14 record entering the series.
Casey Mize, originally scheduled to start the postponed game, will pitch the first game of Saturday's doubleheader for Detroit.
The starter for the second game remains undetermined. Rookie Jackson Jobe, who was the initial starter for Saturday's single game, will not pitch in the doubleheader. This decision leaves open the possibility of using a temporary roster spot for someone like Keider Montero, who was sent down to Triple-A recently.
Tarik Skubal is still set to make his scheduled start on Sunday, April 27. Hinch stated there was no concern regarding Jobe's workload management.
"The de-load is not a problem as long as we build the program around it, geared toward his next start, which we will," Hinch said. "This is probably coming at a good time for him."
