Cincinnati Reds rookie Tyler Callihan recorded his first Major League hit and RBI on Saturday during a game against the Washington Nationals. Callihan, listed as the Reds prospect listing at No. 29, had recently made his debut but waited a few days for the milestone hit.

The hit provided a temporary lead for the Reds, but the game ultimately resulted in an 11-6 loss to the Washington Nationals team page. The Nationals offense scored runs in five of the final six innings at Great American Ball Park.

After a rain delay, Washington took an early 2-0 lead. The Cincinnati Reds team page responded in the bottom of the first, evening the score on a two-run double.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Reds had runners on base. With Callihan batting, a runner was caught stealing before he saw a pitch. Callihan then hit a sharp liner off Trevor Williams into right-center field.

The ball landed for an RBI single, marking both Callihan's first Major League hit and his first run batted in.

Regarding the play, Callihan said, “I didn’t \know for a second. That’s my buddy out there in center field, Jacob Young. He flies out there, so I thought he was going to have a chance. But when I saw it start to get down, I was just pumped for myself and for the team.”

Players in the Cincinnati dugout reacted positively to the moment.

The game summary shows the Nationals pulled away after the Reds' early responses.

Callihan’s performance may indicate potential for the Reds offense as the season progresses. More details are available on the MLB game story.

Callihan commented on achieving both milestones in the same play, saying, “Nice to squeak them both in."
