The St. Louis Cardinals announced Saturday they recalled right-handed pitcher Michael McGreevy from Triple-A Memphis.
The club optioned right-handed pitcher Roddery Munoz to Triple-A as part of the roster move.
As shared by MLB.com's John Denton, the transaction provides the Cardinals with additional pitching depth.
Michael McGreevy had not appeared in a major league game in 2025 before this recall. He made four appearances last season and posted a 1.96 ERA.
He performed well during Spring Training, leading to discussion about his potential inclusion on the Opening Day roster. The team ultimately assigned him to Triple-A to begin the season.
Cardinals manager Oli Marmol indicated Michael McGreevy is in St. Louis for "protection."
Marmol said McGreevy can provide several innings if starters face challenges in upcoming games.
Potential rain delays impacting starters during the current series against the New York Mets were also noted as a factor in the decision.
The Cardinals are playing a three-game series against the Mets, who are currently a strong team in the National League.
