Willson Contreras provided significant offense for St. Louis, hitting a home run and adding two singles to drive in three runs.
The Cardinals scored four times in the fourth inning to build their lead. Erick Fedde earned the win on the mound for St. Louis.
New York attempted a late rally. Francisco Lindor delivered a two-run single in the eighth inning off former Mets reliever Phil Maton, bringing the score to 6-5.
With runners on base after JoJo Romero walked Juan Soto, Pete Alonso struck out looking. Brandon Nimmo then flied out to center field, ending the Mets' eighth-inning threat.
The losing streak was the longest for the Cardinals against one team since a 10-game skid against the Reds between the 1997 and 1998 seasons.
During the nine-game stretch, the Mets outscored the Cardinals 49-22.
Saturday's game was a makeup for a rainout and marked the second doubleheader for the Cardinals in five days.
