Benches and bullpens cleared during a game between the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees on Wednesday after an exchange at second base.
The incident occurred in the bottom of the fourth inning following a stolen base by Orioles outfielder Heston Kjerstad.
As Kjerstad slid into second base, Yankees second baseman Pablo Reyes leaped to catch a high throw. Reyes' momentum carried him over Kjerstad, and he appeared to land near Kjerstad's head and neck.
Following the play, Kjerstad and Reyes exchanged words. Players from both dugouts and bullpens quickly ran onto the field.
Discussions took place around second base for a short time before players returned to their positions and the game resumed without ejections.
The encounter marked the second time in less than a year that a play involving Kjerstad prompted benches to clear between the teams.
On July 12, 2024, Kjerstad was hit in the head by a pitch during a game at Camden Yards, leading to a benches-clearing incident at that time as well.
