Former NASCAR Cup Series winner Kasey Kahne recently served as the honorary pace car driver at Texas Motor Speedway and stated he is open to running more races in the future. His appearance followed a return to NASCAR competition after a significant break from the sport.
Kahne competed in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Rockingham Speedway in April, marking his first start in seven years. Driving for Richard Childress Racing, he finished 14th. He navigated an early incident involving Katherine Legge to earn the result.
Kasey Kahne stepped away from full-time NASCAR racing in 2018 due to health issues related to heat exhaustion inside the car.
Since his departure from NASCAR, Kahne has focused on sprint car racing. He currently competes full-time on the Kubota High Limit Racing winged sprint cars series on dirt.
While at Texas, Kasey Kahne said his return at Rockingham definitely made him want to run more NASCAR races. He admitted missing the sport.
"I think driving the cars \is what I miss the most," Kahne said. "Definitely just driving the cars. Like every week, you're just trying to figure out how to be better and what you can do as a driver with the team .. like how it all works to be better. I miss that side of it to be sure."
He noted that the cars at Rockingham were "great to drive." Regarding future plans, Kasey Kahne indicated that while nothing is confirmed, there could be a chance to fit another race into his schedule this year or next.
During his career in the NASCAR Cup Series, Kasey Kahne earned 18 wins. He also won a Truck Series race at Rockingham in 2012. At Texas, he shared his picks for the Cup race, mentioning Christopher Bell and Ryan Blaney as drivers to watch.
