A 2.8-magnitude earthquake struck Central Virginia Tuesday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The tremor was centered near the town of Dillwyn in Buckingham County and occurred at 1:08 p.m. EDT.

Initial reports from the USGS indicate the quake's depth was approximately half of a mile.

Residents across parts of Central Virginia, including areas near Farmville, Appomattox County, Lynchburg, and Campbell County, reported feeling a rumble.

The USGS located the epicenter about five miles south of Dillwyn, roughly 55 miles west of Richmond, and approximately 38 miles east of Lynchburg and 38 miles south of Charlottesville.

There have been no immediate reports of damage associated with Tuesday's earthquake.

The event follows another small earthquake near Short Pump reported less than a week ago.
