Authorities are searching for a man charged with capital murder who failed to appear for a court date after removing his ankle monitor.
Trevor McEuen was due in a Kaufman County courtroom Monday morning to face a murder charge from a 2023 case. Officials say he removed the electronic monitoring device prior to the scheduled appearance.
The Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with other agencies, is conducting a search focused in the area of U.S. 80 east of Grand Saline. Authorities are asking residents in the area to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to 911. The public should not approach McEuen.
An active warrant has been issued for Trevor McEuen for bail revocation for capital murder. One report indicates bail is now set at $3 million.
Deputies say McEuen is accused of shooting and killing Aaron Martinez, 35, in Kaufman County on May 1, 2023. Martinez was found dead inside his pickup truck with multiple gunshot wounds.
McEuen was reportedly seen driving away from the scene on Neal Road near Forney as deputies arrived. A pursuit ended with a standoff before McEuen surrendered and was taken into custody that afternoon.
The jury selected for McEuen's trial was released due to his disappearance.
Authorities are working to locate McEuen. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice K-9 units have joined the search effort.
Van Zandt County Sheriff Kevin Bridger emphasized public safety.
"Our number one priority is the safety of all citizens of Van Zandt County," Sheriff Bridger said. "We are working diligently with our partner agencies to ensure the safety of all our Citizens."
