A new documentary series featuring actor Ewan McGregor is set to premiere this week, following his latest motorcycle journey with long-time friend Charley Boorman. Titled "Long Way Home," the series documents their travels across Europe on restored vintage motorcycles.
The ten-episode series begins streaming Friday, May 9, 2025, on Apple TV+. This project marks the fourth installment in the duo's motorcycle adventure saga.
Previous series included "Long Way Round," which covered a journey from London to New York in 2004, and "Long Way Down," from Scotland to South Africa in 2007. Their most recent trip, "Long Way Up," saw them ride electric motorcycles from Argentina to Los Angeles in 2019.
For "Long Way Home," McGregor and Boorman started from McGregor's home in Scotland. They traveled across the North Sea to Scandinavia, continued up to the Arctic Circle, and then journeyed down through the Baltic states and continental Europe before concluding the trip at Boorman's home in England.
The route covers approximately 17 European countries. Filming for the series took place over about two months in 2024.
The series aims to blend elements of travel and discovery, focusing on landscapes, local cultures, and interactions encountered along the way. It also highlights the friendship between the two protagonists.
Producers David Alexanian and Russ Malkin, along with cameraman Claudio von Planta, who have been involved in the prior series, returned for this latest adventure.
The documentary series format follows the pattern of their previous expeditions, offering a look at the challenges and experiences of long-distance motorcycle riding. The series is expected to appeal to audiences interested in travel, road trips, and human adventure.
Upcoming TV listings note the show's debut on Apple TV+. This follows a slate of Apple TV+ releases for the month of May. Some TV reviews have provided a glimpse into the show's content ahead of its release.
