Colin Jost referenced his purchase of a decommissioned Staten Island Ferry boat during a sketch on the May 3 episode of Saturday Night Live. Jost appeared as himself in a segment where he attempted to sell the vessel to characters involved in an unrelated dispute.
The sketch, titled "Ferry Altercation," featured host Quinta Brunson and cast member Mikey Day in a heated argument conducted from inside their cars while on a ferry. Chloe Fineman played Day's daughter in the scene.
Day's character expressed his frustration by stating he usually enjoys the ferry, prompting Jost's appearance at his car window. Jost asked if they would be interested in buying a ferry if they liked them.
As the characters expressed surprise at seeing him and tried to ignore him, Jost persisted. He then tried a different approach, pretending to be his co-owner. "Hey! Hi! I’m Pete Davidson, hi," Jost said.
Jost purchased the MV John F. Kennedy ferry boat in 2022 with Pete Davidson and Paul Italia. Both comedians grew up on Staten Island.
Jost has commented on the impulsive nature of the purchase in the past. He told PEOPLE in September 2024 that it was "absolutely the dumbest and least thought-through purchase I've ever made in my life."
Pete Davidson has discussed plans for the boat, envisioning its transformation into an entertainment venue with a restaurant, concert area, movie theater, and hotel rooms.
He stated on the "Family Trips with the Meyers Brothers" podcast in April 2024 that the project is likely "five years away" and required significant funding, estimated at around "$100 million."
Davidson also shared the temporary name chosen for the LLC used to buy the boat. "We jokingly named it the Titanic 2," he said, adding that it is "actually funny that this will be a lifelong problem for me and Colin."
