Actress Kim Cattrall has spoken about maintaining a clear distinction between herself and her longtime character, Samantha Jones, from the series Sex and the City. In a recent interview, Cattrall detailed her approach to separating her professional life from the widely recognized role.

Cattrall told Grazia that she rarely kept clothing worn by the character, explaining that the style did not align with her own. She observed that some people appeared confused or disappointed when she did not exhibit more of Samantha's persona off-screen.

This led Cattrall to draw a deliberate line between her personal identity and the character she portrayed for many years. Much of Samantha's on-screen wardrobe was reportedly given to charity, family, and friends.

The conversation comes as the spinoff series And Just Like That... continues, featuring original cast members Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon. Jon Corbett has also returned as Aidan, a recurring character from the original show.

Fan reactions to the spinoff's third season trailer have included discussion regarding Samantha Jones' continued absence. Cattrall made a brief appearance in the second season via a phone call, but she has not filmed scenes directly with the main cast members.

Beyond her professional separation from the character, Cattrall also addressed the aesthetic standards placed on women, particularly in the entertainment industry. She described expectations for women to appear decades younger as unrealistic and dismissed the pressure.

She stated her preference for feeling well while looking presentable, asserting that this is a personal choice.

Reflecting on her career, Cattrall acknowledged facing both positive and negative experiences.

"I've been celebrated, I've been decimated, I've been befriended, I've been betrayed. Along the way, you try to find peace within," Cattrall said.
