Hilaria Baldwin states in her new memoir that diagnoses of ADHD and dyslexia affect her speech, including her shifting accent.
In her book, “Manual Not Included," Baldwin writes that these conditions impact her speech, reading, listening, focus, memory and self-confidence. She says her brain functions differently than others.
The former yoga studio co-founder gained attention in late 2020 when questions arose about her background and Spanish heritage claims. She was born Hillary Hayward-Thomas in Boston.
Video clips from past appearances surfaced, showing her speaking with varying accents. In one segment on the “TODAY” show, she appeared to forget the English word for cucumber while demonstrating cooking.
Following the public discussion, Baldwin posted a video on Instagram, which has since been deleted. In it, she said she spent portions of her childhood in both Boston and Spain, and that her family was living in Spain at the time. (Source)
However, reports indicated her parents did not move to Mallorca, Spain, until 2011. At that time, she was 27 years old.Baldwin writes that she had not discussed her diagnoses publicly before the book's release. She says she previously existed in a state where she sometimes spoke one language, sometimes another, and sometimes mixed them up without discussing her processing differences.
The attention and scrutiny in 2020 affected her well-being, Baldwin states in the book. She describes feeling confused, lost, unable to eat, losing weight, and questioning her sanity and whether she was a good person.
Her husband, actor Alec Baldwin, helped her navigate the difficult period. She writes that he drew on his own experiences with public criticism.
Hilaria Baldwin and Alec Baldwin married in 2012. They have seven children together. The family recently premiered in a reality television series.
Baldwin states in her book that she now accepts that her “brain just works differently.”
