Actor Michael Pitt, known for his role in "Boardwalk Empire," was arrested Friday and arraigned Tuesday in Brooklyn Supreme Court on multiple sex and assault charges stemming from alleged incidents involving his ex-girlfriend.
Prosecutors allege Michael Pitt sexually assaulted, strangled, and attacked his former partner with objects during four domestic incidents between April 2020 and August 2021 at his Bushwick residence.
The indictment includes two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, first-degree criminal sex act, third-degree criminal sex act, two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of second-degree attempted assault, and second-degree strangulation.
According to court documents, the actor allegedly fondled his ex-girlfriend, then months later sexually assaulted and struck her with a wooden plank. On a different occasion in June 2021, he is accused of assaulting her with a cinderblock before allegedly strangling her on August 7, 2021.
Pitt, 44, pleaded not guilty to all charges before Judge Joanne Quinones. Bail was set at $100,000, which the actor posted following the arraignment. He is scheduled to appear in court again on June 17.
The actor has faced prior legal issues. He was arrested in July 2022 on assault and petty larceny charges following an alleged altercation where he hit a man and took his phone. Later that year, he was reportedly hospitalized after allegedly throwing items from a rooftop. Pitt's attorney, Cary London, stated his client would never contemplate these crimes and was arrested based on the "uncorroborated word of an unhinged individual."
"We look forward to proving his innocence through the evidence and not through the media," London said.
