The family of the late actress Kim Sae Ron held a second press conference Tuesday to provide updates regarding their legal pursuit against actor Kim Soo Hyun, revealing details from a recording they claim contains the actress's statements about a past relationship with him.
Attorneys for the family announced they have filed a criminal case against Kim Soo Hyun under the Child Welfare Act and for false accusation. The conference, held on May 7, included family members, legal representative Bu Ji Seok, and HoverLab owner Kim Se Eui. Kim Se Eui has reportedly been involved in the case and was previously sued by Kim Soo Hyun and his agency, GOLDMEDALIST, on stalking allegations.
During the press conference, legal representative Ji Seok stated that Kim Sae Ron had spoken with a "whistleblower" in New Jersey about a month before her death. This conversation, lasting approximately 1.5 hours, was reportedly recorded with the actress's consent.
According to Ji Seok, the whistleblower was attacked last month by two men. The case is currently under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the United States. The lawyer conveyed the family's earnest plea to reveal a portion of the recording, citing concerns the situation could worsen if they waited.
A segment of the recording was played during the event. The voice identified as the actress discussed her alleged relationship with Kim Soo Hyun, stating she dated him since middle school until college. She expressed fear of Kim Soo Hyun and GOLDMEDALIST, describing them as "scary" and willing to do anything. The recording included an account of the actor allegedly sending her a photograph taken while engaging in sexual activity with another woman.
The voice in the recording claimed she felt "used" since middle school and that after an "accident," she was portrayed negatively. She described the photo content, including the actor saving the other woman's name as 'miyeok' (seaweed) in his phone because she allegedly smelled like it. The voice also claimed their first sexual encounter occurred during winter break in her second year of middle school.
Beyond the legal actions, the family's legal team highlighted safety concerns. They reported threats to the whistleblower and sightings of suspicious vehicles near the home of Kim Sae Ron's aunt. Bu Ji Seok requested police protection for the bereaved family and CEO Kim Se Eui.
