American Airlines and Qantas are adding and increasing flight services between the United States and Australia, enhancing connectivity across the Pacific. The changes include a new seasonal route from Los Angeles (LAX) and increased operations from Dallas Fort Worth (DFW).
American Airlines will launch three weekly flights connecting Los Angeles (LAX) with Brisbane, Australia (BNE). This service is scheduled to operate from December 5, 2025, through the end of January 2026. These flights will complement existing service on the route operated by joint business partner Qantas. American plans to operate the Los Angeles-Brisbane route using a Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
From Dallas Fort Worth (DFW), Qantas is increasing frequencies to Melbourne, Australia (MEL). Operations will become daily starting December 3, 2025, through the end of January 2026. Also from DFW, Qantas will operate the Airbus A380 aircraft on all daily services to Sydney, Australia (SYD) beginning in January 2026.
American will also resume its seasonal service from DFW to Brisbane (BNE). This route is set to restart October 26, 2025, utilizing its newly designed Boeing 787-9 aircraft featuring Flagship Suite seats.
The expanded schedules are part of the ongoing joint business partnership between American and Qantas. The airlines aim to provide the most comprehensive service connecting North America with Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific. Customers can connect through key gateways including DFW, LAX, New York (JFK), San Francisco (SFO), and Vancouver, Canada (YVR) to destinations in Australia and New Zealand like Auckland (AKL), BNE, MEL, and SYD.
Customers traveling on these routes can benefit from the partnership's reciprocal programs. Members of American's AAdvantage program and Qantas Frequent Flyer can earn and redeem miles and access status benefits such as Priority check-in, extra baggage allowance, and lounge access when traveling on either airline.
Steve Johnson, American’s Vice Chair and Chief Strategy Officer, commented on the increased options. “American is proud to partner with Qantas to increase travel options for customers to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne this winter,” Johnson said. “Together, we offer the most comprehensive service connecting the United States with Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.”
