Tesla has released a paid software enhancement for the new Model Y Long Range All Wheel Drive crossover. The upgrade, titled "Acceleration Boost," is available for purchase directly through the company's mobile application.

The upgrade reportedly adds approximately 100 horsepower to the vehicle's output. This allows the Model Y to reduce its 0-60 mph acceleration time from 4.6 seconds to 4.2 seconds.

This represents a 0.4-second improvement in the sprint to 60 mph. Drivers may note this difference during acceleration maneuvers, such as merging onto highways.

The "Acceleration Boost" is priced at $2,000 USD. It is delivered over-the-air once purchased, requiring no physical modification to the vehicle.

The release of the upgrade comes as Tesla continues to roll out the updated Model Y, sometimes referred to as "Juniper." Currently, the Long Range AWD configuration appears to be the primary variant available for order in the United States following the conclusion of a limited Launch Series.

Sources indicate this software option serves as a bridge for customers seeking enhanced performance while the dedicated high-performance version of the new Model Y is not yet widely offered. The company has previously utilized software updates to unlock performance gains on its vehicles after purchase.

The availability of the upgrade has been noted in several global regions, including North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Tesla offers a 48-hour window for refunds on the purchase.

The news was initially observed and shared by members of the Tesla community on social media. Matthew Donegan-Ryan, an owner and investor, highlighted the upgrade's appearance on the app.
