Walmart announced plans to significantly remodel over 650 of its stores across the country this year. The extensive project aims to update the shopping experience for customers.
Company representatives stated the remodels involve improvements to store layouts and technology. Updates will feature clearer signage and improved displays designed to better showcase merchandise.
The initiative includes work on more than 20 New York locations. Twenty-three specific stores in the state are slated for renovation during the year. These locations are spread across various communities.
In Ohio, 23 Walmart stores are also scheduled for remodels. Eight of these updates will occur in the central Ohio area. Four stores in the Greater Cincinnati region are part of the planned work.
Beyond general store appearance, the upgrades will expand product selection in certain departments. Walmart also plans to enhance its services for online pickup and delivery customers.
Pharmacy areas will see significant changes. Plans include wider aisles for easier access, new private screening rooms, and dedicated privacy areas for checkout.
The remodeling effort follows a similar announcement regarding Sam's Club stores, also owned by Walmart. Sam's Club announced remodels for all its current locations and plans for roughly 15 new stores over several years.
Walmart operates 111 retail units and five supply chain facilities in New York, employing over 39,600 associates in the state. Ohio has about 58,000 employees working for the retailer.
The company did not provide a precise timeline for individual store renovations, noting schedules are subject to construction factors.
Annie Walker, senior vice president of Walmart’s East Business Unit, commented on the program. "Our stores often serve as the heartbeat of the communities we operate in, and these remodels are a testament to our dedication to enhancing that role," Walker said.
