A vehicle crashed into an entrance at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Sunday, killing two people, including a young girl, and injuring three others, officials said.
The Philippine Red Cross identified one victim as a 4-year-old girl and the other as an adult male. Secretary of Transportation Vivencio Hizon confirmed three people were hospitalized with injuries sustained in the incident.
The vehicle, a black SUV, rammed into a wall near a departures entrance at Manila airport Terminal 1 just before 9 a.m. Sunday.
Dozens of emergency personnel responded to the scene. Scene footage from the area showed the damaged SUV and responders working.
The driver of the vehicle was taken into police custody following the crash.
The airport operator, New NAIA Infra Co., said it is coordinating with authorities investigating the NAIA Terminal 1 accident. The cause remains under investigation, with no immediate indication the crash was deliberate.
San Miguel Corp. president and CEO and Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Infra Corp. chairman Ramon Ang was seen assisting first responders at the crash site.
The SUV was later removed from the entrance area.
