Sony is reportedly planning an event this month where it is expected to introduce the new Sony Xperia 1 VII smartphone. Reports suggest the event is scheduled for May 13.
According to a rumor originating in Japan, the official announcement and release in Japan could occur on May 15. Global availability is said to follow later, potentially in July. This potential gap between the Japan launch and international release is not uncommon for Sony devices.
The Sony Xperia 1 VII is anticipated to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM. A recent Geekbench listing seemingly confirms these specifications, indicating the phone will launch running the ANDROID 15 operating system.
Device dimensions were recently revealed through a US FCC certification filing, measuring 162 x 74.5 x 8.5mm. This makes the new model slightly different in size compared to its previous model. The certification also indicates a battery capacity of 4850mAh minimum and 5000mAh typical, matching the predecessor.
Rumors suggest the 6.5-Inch Display size will remain unchanged. Camera specifications are also circulating, including a 48MP main sensor with optical image stabilization, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 12MP periscope telephoto lens offering a 70-200mm focal length, and a 12MP front camera.
A live premier for a launch event is noted for May 17th at 11AM JST. This timeline aligns with the reported mid-May announcement window.
