Certain LG televisions can now stream Xbox games directly through a new application, removing the requirement for a dedicated console. The application became available on April 23, offering users another way to access Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Supported television models include LG 2022 OLED TVs, 2023 Smart TVs, and newer releases. Monitors running webOS24 or a more recent version also support the application. Users can consult a full list of supported devices provided by the company.
Accessing the game library requires an active Game Pass Ultimate subscription. The service streams games over the internet, similar to video streaming platforms.
Players need a compatible Bluetooth controller to use the service. Controllers manufactured by both Xbox and PlayStation are supported for use with the application.
The quality of the gameplay experience relies on the stability and speed of the user's internet connection. Users with internet plans that include datacaps should be aware of potential data usage when streaming games.
The expansion is part of Microsoft's "This Is An Xbox" initiative. This campaign highlights how devices users may already own, such as TVs, smartphones, and tablets, can be used to play Xbox games through streaming technology. ["This Is An Xbox"]
Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer stated that the concept of "playing on Xbox" extends beyond the console itself.
"It means somebody who is logging in and playing a part of our ecosystem, whether first-party or third-party," Spencer said. "And it could be on an Android phone. It could be on a Switch. It could be on a PC. That's how we think about it."
